HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Torrential downpours soaked parts of Oahu on Tuesday morning, including in Ewa Beach, where floodwaters rushed into one home, creating a huge mess.
“The entire downstairs is completely flooded,” Ewa Beach resident Timothy Crawley said. “I’m trying to get air going, but the floor is popped up all over the place so I’m anticipating I’m going to have to replace the entire floor.”
Crawley, who’s lived in Ewa Beach for two years, said the flooding began around 6 a.m. He believes a nearby canal may have overflowed, sending water racing into neighborhoods.
“It was a lake,” Crawley said. “One of my daughters came out. She’s like, ‘there’s a fish,’ and she saw a fish, and she came running in all excited about seeing a fish floating around beside the house.”
Crawley said he and his family gathered blankets and towels and tried stop the water from coming through any entryways, but it still seeped through and flooded the downstairs.
“We’re not in a flood zone,” he said. “Talked to some of my neighbors. One of the neighbors over here, he’s lived here his whole life. He’s like, mid 50s. He’s like, ‘I’ve never seen anything like this.’”
A flood advisory was in effect for Oahu until 11 a.m. All severe weather alerts have since expired.
